Kel-Tech: An Introduction

"I want to go to MIT," a bright-eyed seven-year-old me would declare. "I want to go to MIT."

As a native Floridian, my childhood goal was to go to MIT for a degree in engineering, return to my home state, and start a career as an Imagineer at Walt Disney World. I know, small dreams for a second-grader, right? I wanted to be an Imagineer because the concept that a single person, Walt Disney, could have an idea that would spawn so many hallowed pieces of entertainment was astounding. Specifically, the idea that one could think of a ride that millions of people would revere inspired me. How could a ride, a piece of technology, be so beloved? How amazing is it that people would want to buy merchandise based on my idea for a ride? How is it that one idea could only be described as magic for others? It was the interconnection of human beings and technology that created the magic I wanted to be a part of, and I was fascinated.

In middle school, I was actively a part of the Technology Student Association. I garnered state champion titles, and was the only student from my middle school to go to nationals. In high school, I created a tumblr that now has nearly 20,000 followers. In college, I created a social media positivity campaign in which over 700 students, alumni, family, staff and faculty of the university participated. Furthermore, for my senior research, I studied how individuals interact with deceased Facebook users, and I was fortunate enough to be a research assistant for Global Futurist Marc Goodman on the impact technology is having on the future of crime.

While I never became an Imagineer or applied to MIT, the power technology has to impact others never ceased to amaze me. I intend to follow my interest in technology and society by enrolling in a doctoral program one day (maybe this time I will delight seven-year-old me by applying to MIT). This blog serves as a place to talk to the impact technology and society have on one another. I hope to create a space to think critically about this topic that I have loved for so long.

This is my take on technology and society.

Thank you for visiting my site.
